Module 3: Optimizing use of Uterotonics in management of PPH-- Dr Charmila Ayyavoo, Vice President, FOGSI 2024, discussed about use of uterotonics in in PPH management, Key points of discussion were:
- Postpartum hemorrhage
- Bleeding after birth
- AMTSL: administer uterotonic within 1 min of delivery
- Newer drug for prevention of PPH
- Atonic PPH- Treatment
- Available Uterotonics
- Ergometrine 0.5 mg by slow IV or IM (contraindicated in hypertension)
- Oxytocin infusion unless fluid restriction is necessary. Combinations can be given as second line uterotonics.
- If pharmacologic interventions have not controlled bleeding, surgical intervention should be undertaken promptly.
Module 4: Panel discussion: Obesity and High-Risk Pregnancy: Addressing Challenges during labor and Promoting Healthy Outcomes - The Panel discussion was moderated by Dr Jyoti Bindal. The Panelist were Dr Laxmi Shrikhande, Dr Niharika Allu, Dr Charmila Ayyavoo and Dr Sunanda Rani Gutta. Few questions asked were:
- What are the primary challenges faced by obese individuals during pregnancy, particularly during labor?
- What are the long-term implications of obesity during pregnancy on maternal and child health outcomes?
- What are the specific obstetric considerations and challenges when managing labor in obese individuals, and how do they differ from those in non-obese individuals?
- How do healthcare providers adapt obstetric care plans for obese pregnant women to optimize maternal and fetal outcomes while minimizing risks?
- What are the recommended guidelines for managing anesthesia and pain relief during labor and delivery in obese individuals, considering their unique physiological characteristics?
