Module 1: Dr Shubhi from Medical Learning Hub welcomed the panelists and introduced Dr. Meghal Sanghavi surgeon for Modified Radical Mastectomy, Anesthesiologist Dr Ajit Pillai and moderator Dr Rajeev Joshi describing the general instructions of the event. Dr Meghal further introduced the team including of assisted surgeons, nurses and other OT staff.
Module 2: Case debriefing: Dr Sneha Galande, Assisting surgeon debriefed the case about the 52 years old female patient with biopsy of Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma – Grade 3 , ER – Negative, PR – Positive (10%), HER2 – Negative, Kib7 – 29% and PET scan reading of /O Left breast lump 2.2 cm x 2 cm x 2.2 cm, Satellite lesion inferior to it 1.0cm in size, Axillary and retro pectoral nodes positive – largest – 2.5 cm x 2.2 cm. Case history and pre treatment plan was also described.
Module 3: Live case presentation: Modified Radical Mastectomy by Dr Meghal demonstrated the live surgery describing all the steps like:
- Anatomy markings prior to mastectomy.
- Superior flap dissection.
- Superior flap dissection up to the pectoralis muscle facia.
- Lifting the breast off the pectoralis muscle with the facia in the specimen.
- Entering the axilla at the lateral boder of pectoralis major muscle.
- Preserving the axillary vein and the thoracodorsal nerve (along with the thoracodorsal vascular bundle) to the latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior in the axillary dissection.
- Drain placement and skin closing after mastectomy.
Module 4: Question & Answers: Several questions were asked during this live surgery which were moderated by Dr Rajeev and answered by Dr Meghal.
Module 5: Vote of thanks: Dr Meghal and Dr Rajeev thanked all the OT staff and Dr Shubhi from Medical Learning Hub delivered vote of thanks thanking all the participants, surgeons, moderator anaesthesiologist as well as all the OT staff.
