Module 1:Welcome Note: Dr Shubhi from Medical Learning Hub welcomed all the participants, panelists, speakers for the live CME on "Identifying & Diagnosing TB Patients at your practice". All the instructions were explained and first poll was raised.
Module 2: Inaugural address: Dr Vandana Kate, IMA Nagpur President inaugrated the session and welcomed all the panelist and speakers. She elightened us about the need for TB identification and diagnosis.
Module 3: Diagnostics & Management of TB: Dr. Bornali Datta, Director Respiratory Department, Medanta the Medicity at Delhi - NCR discussed about the diagnosis and management of tuberculosis. Key points of discussion were:
- Evolution of program algorithm
- upfront molecular diagnostics (CB NAAT)
- Evolution of RNTCP to ellimination (NTEP)
- Current national algorithm
- What test and when to start
- What test to use?
- completing the algorithm
- once diagnosis confirmed/ reflex testing
Module 4: Clinical indication & diagnosis of TB: Dr. Frenil Chetanbhai Munim, Nobel Micropath Laboratory, Perfect diagnostics and Venus Hospital discussed about the clinical indications and diagnosis of TB. Key points of discussion were:
- Challenges of diagnosis and management of TB
- Avaialabity of different tests under molecular testing
- lack of availability for molecular tests
- Antimicrobial stewardship
- Diagnostic stewardship
- MDR and XDR TB case based discussion
Module 5:Panel discussion:Selecting right technology at right time for managing cases of TB The panel discussion was moderated by Dr Bornali Datta, The panelists for the discussion were Dr Radha Munje, Dr Kalpana Date, Dr Gyanshankar Mishra, Dr Madhuwanti Abhyankar and Dr Frenil Munim. Several questions were asked like:
- How would you typically deal with referral TB patients? What’s been your biggest concern (diagnostic delays/inaccuracies)? Any words of wisdom for the practicing physicians having the first interface with these patients?
- What do you think about the concept of reflex testing and ruling out the possibility of INH-mono resistance (It's a growing concern in the region)?
- We have seen various Test in Market for TB testing? How you ensure the test is done on said technology only?
- How do you foresee the discordance (if any) between genotypic and phenotypic tests?
